About This Service
Restore Your Fuel —
Don't Replace It
Contaminated heating oil or diesel doesn't always need to be disposed of. In many cases, fuel polishing can restore your fuel to full usability — saving you the cost of replacement and disposal.
Britteco's mobile fuel polishing units circulate fuel through a multi-stage filtration system, removing water, sludge, microbial growth (diesel bug) and solid particulates — returning clean, usable fuel directly to your tank.
We also provide fuel transfer services — moving fuel safely between tanks, into approved storage, or to a new tank during replacement. All services are available for domestic, agricultural and commercial clients across all 32 counties.

Our 4-Step Fuel Polishing Process
From fuel analysis to clean, restored fuel — we handle everything on site with minimal disruption.
Signs Your Fuel Needs Attention
Is Your Fuel Contaminated?
Fuel stored for more than a few months can begin to degrade. Water enters through condensation, microbial growth follows, and the result is contaminated fuel that damages boilers, generators and engines. Look out for these warning signs.

Fuel Polishing & Transfer — Common Questions
Fuel polishing is a multi-stage mechanical filtration process that removes water, sludge, microbial contamination (diesel bug) and solid particles from stored fuel. The fuel is drawn from the tank, passed through increasingly fine filters down to 1 micron, and returned clean to the same tank — without any need to drain or remove it.
The diesel bug is the collective term for microbial contamination — bacteria, yeast, mould and bio-films that grow at the water-fuel interface in storage tanks. Modern low-sulphur diesel and biodiesel blends are particularly vulnerable. If left untreated, the diesel bug produces acids that corrode tanks and causes sludge that blocks filters, fuel lines and injectors — leading to boiler or engine failure.
Not always. We assess your fuel before starting — if the contamination is too severe, polishing may not be cost-effective and we'll recommend responsible disposal instead. In most cases, however, polishing is the right solution and significantly cheaper than replacing your entire tank of fuel.
The cost depends on the volume of fuel, the level of contamination and your location. We provide a free, no-obligation quote before any work begins. Call us on 01 539 2798 for a quick estimate — in most cases, polishing costs significantly less than replacing the fuel.
No. Our mobile polishing units connect directly to your existing tank. The fuel is circulated through our filtration system and returned clean to the same tank — there is no need to drain, remove or replace the tank. Your heating system can usually continue operating with minimal disruption.
We work with all common fuel types used in Ireland — including heating oil (kerosene / 28-second oil), agricultural diesel, gas oil, commercial diesel, biodiesel blends and generator diesel. We also handle fuel transfer for all these types — between tanks, into storage containers, or to a new tank during replacement.
For domestic heating oil tanks, polishing is usually only needed when a problem becomes apparent. For standby generators and emergency power systems, annual or bi-annual polishing is recommended — the fuel can sit unused for years, making regular maintenance essential to ensure reliability when it's needed.
We provide fuel polishing and transfer services across all 32 counties in Ireland — including Dublin, Cork, Galway, Limerick, Waterford, Meath, Kildare, Wicklow, Kerry, Donegal and all surrounding areas. Not sure? Give us a call and we'll confirm.
